We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team in PNG. This role is vital in supporting the scientific and analytical functions within our laboratory environment, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of lab operations.
About the Role
As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for conducting routine and specialized laboratory tests, preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, and assisting in the collection and analysis of specimens in accordance with standard protocols. You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure all testing procedures adhere to safety and quality guidelines while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform standardized laboratory tests and experiments accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure optimal operational conditions.
- Collect, label, and process samples according to established procedures, ensuring traceability and data integrity.
- Maintain detailed and precise records of all laboratory activities, results, and quality control measures.
- Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or deviations in test results to supervisory staff.
- Support the inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents, ordering and restocking as necessary.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research, development, and quality assurance projects.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and workflows.
Qualifications and Skills
- Relevant diploma or certification in Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment with familiarity in handling biological, chemical, or environmental samples.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety standards, quality assurance, and good laboratory practices.
- Proficient in operating laboratory instruments and equipment with solid troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate within diverse teams and to document findings clearly.
