Overall Purpose Of The Job
The Editor (AVSEC Focus) is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and editorial integrity of aviation security–relevant intelligence content produced across the MedAire and International SOS environment a 24/7 operational environment.
The role plays a critical governance and quality control function in Aviation Security (AVSEC) alerting, ensuring alignment with MedAire Aviation Alert Reporting Thresholds and the AVSEC Alert Quick Reference Guide, and broader editorial standards.
The Editor works in close alignment with International SOS analysts and editors and is expected to be technologically proficient with MedAire’s Content Management System (CMS). The Editor supports operational delivery by maintaining high editorial standards, ensuring outputs are clear, consistent, and actionable for operational and client use, and contributing to the continuous improvement of content quality across aviation security products.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit and publish aviation security alerts, advisories, and assessments in line with AVSEC thresholds and editorial standards.
- Apply the AVSEC Alert Quick Reference Guide to ensure correct alert staging, formatting, and lifecycle continuity.
- Act as a quality gatekeeper for AVSEC content, preventing duplication or misclassification.
- Draft and edit short advisories for breaking aviation security events and ensure timely delivery to clients.
- Ensure consistency of aviation security outputs across service lines and alignment with MedAire standards.
- Maintain alignment to a certain extent with International SOS editors and regional security teams.
- Maintain reporting discipline, including adherence to daily workflows, publishing timelines, and operational requirements.
- Provide editorial feedback and support to Security Specialists and analysts, including structured feedback.
- Support training and development of team members to improve content quality and reporting standards.
- Respond to client queries related to aviation security content as required, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and professionalism in all outputs.
- Provide editorial oversight across multiple content formats, including written and multimedia deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with global editorial, aviation, and regional security teams to ensure alignment and consistency.
- Apply sound editorial judgement to prioritise, escalate, and manage content during fast-moving or high-impact aviation security events.
- Builds strong working relationships across teams and regions; communicates proactively and supports collaboration in high-pressure environments.
- Produces clear, concise, and well-structured outputs tailored to operational and client needs; ensures consistency and quality of all content.
- Applies critical thinking and judgement to prioritise information and assess relevance during fast-moving aviation security events.
- Uses CMS and operational tools effectively to manage and deliver aviation security content in line with required standards.
CMS & Technology Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of MedAire’s CMS (Umbraco), or equivalent platforms.
- Ability to edit, preview, publish, update, and maintain aviation security content accurately.
- Adherence to CMS governance, alert lifecycle management, and quality assurance controls.
- High level of digital literacy and confidence working under time pressure.
- Confident use of digital tools in a fast-paced, time-sensitive operational environment
Required Skills and Knowledge
- High proficiency in copy-editing and proof-reading, particularly for time-sensitive security content.
- Strong understanding of aviation security concepts including airspace, airports, operational risk and alerting discipline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and actionable content.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical judgement.
- Ability to priorities and manage multiple tasks in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Advanced digital literacy, including content management systems and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to collaborate across regions and functions, and cross-functional teams.
- Integrated cultural sensitivity considerations into operations, communications, and client interactions.
Required Work Experience
- Significant editorial experience, ideally in a news, intelligence, or current affairs environment.
- Experience working with breaking news or time-sensitive alerting environments.
- Experience producing content for a professional or operational audience
- Exposure to global security issues, preferably related to aviation or geopolitical risk
- Experience using content management systems and structured reporting formats
- Experience contributing to quality improvement initiatives in content delivery
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in journalism, international relations, security studies, or related field.
- International experience and multimedia exposure preferred.
- Additional training or certification in aviation security, intelligence, or risk analysis preferred.
Required Languages
- Fluent in English.
- Additional languages are an advantage
Travel / Rotation Requirements
- Ability to work in a rotating shift pattern aligned with 24/7 operations, including weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to support high-tempo operational periods during global aviation security events.
