About the role
Under the supervision of the Specialized Learning Support (SLS) Program Leader, the primary responsibility of the SLS caregiver is to provide safe, educational environments for students within the SLS program and take care of their basic needs, including dressing, feeding, and supervising play and snack/lunch times. The caregiver performs clerical tasks such as organizing, filing, preparing materials, purchasing/ picking up supplies, or other tasks specified by the Program Leader and SLS team members.
Key responsibilities
● Implement a student’s safety and care plan and document procedures under the guidance of the SLS Program Leader.
● Perform tasks related to the intimate care* of a student.
● Adhere to the school’s expectations and guidelines of intimate care.
● Perform tasks related to feeding and meal preparation of students.
● Maintain the cleanliness of spaces after feeding, toileting, and dressing a student.
● Supervise students during eating, play, and break times.
● Adheres to school’s child safeguarding and protection policy.
● Fosters and sustains a community that rejects all forms of discrimination.
● Acts with intercultural competency to develop and maintain safe spaces for all individuals at school.
● Maintains confidentiality at all times.
● Performs clerical tasks and other duties as assigned.
*Intimate care:
At times, individual students may need assistance with personal care needs due to age, specific health/medical conditions, or other circumstances. Intimate care may be defined as any activity or task required to meet the personal care needs or hygiene of an individual child. Most people usually carry out the task themselves; however, some individuals need assistance due to young age, motor difficulties, or other needs arising from the student’s stage of development. Intimate care may include, but is not limited to:
● Bathing
● Toileting
● Dressing/undressing,
● Supervision of a child involved in intimate self-care.
The SLS Caregiver must adhere to each student’s intimate care plan and document any procedures carried out.
About you
● A high school diploma or higher
● Relevant experience working with people with disabilities, in a medical, school or home setting
● Physical fitness to perform tasks such as sitting on the floor, bending, and lifting children
● Ability to maintain composure in a variety of situations
● Respectful and patient attitude toward students and other professionals
● Proficient verbal and written communication skills in both English and Filipino
● Demonstrated organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
● Highly motivated, flexible, and able to multitask
● Ability to identify issues, determine solutions, and work in a collaborative environment
