About the role
The Lead Security Analyst is responsible for the operational direction, guidance and analytical oversight for Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan across all internal and client-facing deliverables, in line with the direction set by the Security Director, Information & Analysis (I&A) and in alignment with the Security Director, Assistance.
In this role you will work closely with other Lead Security Analysts and relevant Medical I&A team leaders on issues of overlap whilst ensuring that operational planning and decision‑making—both in normal operations and during crises—are informed by a clear analytical position and outlook.
Working in collaboration with the Content Services team - you will be shaping how information and analysis should be delivered and presented to clients in an audience-centric way across the multimedia digital space.
Key responsibilities
• Ensure International SOS’ analytical position and outlook on Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan is clear to clients and stakeholders in order to inform timely decision-making.
• Ensure the Security Specialist I&A team is given appropriate information collection guidance for the region on a continuous basis.
• Ensure the team has appropriate numbers and diversity of sources for intelligence collection, developing action plans for the Security Director, I&A where appropriate.
• Ensure International SOS’ operational posture and planning for the region is taken in full view of the security outlook.
• Oversee functional feedback to Security Specialists, I&A for deliverables relating to the region, building subject matter knowledge of the above listed countries as well as intelligence analysis writing best practice.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders across the Content Services & Medical I&A communities to ensure comprehensiveness of output and overall economy of effort.
• Oversee the maintenance of background client-facing security information, ensuring it is up to date and reflective of the current risk environment.
• Contribute to ensuring a best-in-class security I&A capability by participating in intelligence collection projects and training.
• Some travel required to the regions to assess security situation, local provider capabilities and expansion of existing network of security I&A and assistance contacts
• Participation in the regional security on-call roster as required.
• As required, deliver research and analysis related to security and geopolitical risk in the region as well as engaging in client specific risk intelligence consultancy tasks.
• Support the sales and marketing teams in the articulation of International SOS’ services and in providing functional expertise in the client facing forums such as webinars and conferences in the above listed countries.
• Build an extensive understanding of a 24/7, global, integrated operational intelligence cycle.
• Undertake training courses relating to the work of security I&A as agreed with line manager.
• Providing on-the-job training and support for the Security Specialists
• Be part of regional and global projects to enhance International SOS' information collection, analysis and dissemination capabilities.
About you
• Extremely strong knowledge of the political and security landscape within Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills & the ability to explain complex situations to non-expert audiences in English.
• Ability to critically analyse multiple streams of information under time pressure and produce actionable insights.
• Ability to identify key streams of effort and direct colleagues accordingly.
• Knowledge of all stages of intelligence cycle including multi-source direction and collection.
• Commercial acumen and understanding of how risk intelligence fits in the business cycle.
• On the ground experience in the region.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other applications.
• Typically 5-7 years’ experience in security intelligence analysis for the above listed countries in sectors such as: risk consulting, military, government, NGO, journalism or academic studies.
• Experience at all levels of an intelligence cycle involving digital and human sources.
• Experience in writing to senior management and decision-makers, public speaking, client-facing presentation and/or media experience.
• Experience of working in a customer/client focused role.
• Masters degree (or relevant professional training) in a field related to security intelligence, international politics, international relations or similar.
• Excellent spoken and written English language.
• Other language proficiency desirable Russian, Ukrainian or other regional language.
Additional Information
• Some travel, sometimes on urgent request.
• Occasional evening/weekend work based on operational requirements.
