About the role
Shift Structure: Rotating 8-hour shifts to provide 24/7 coverage: 6:00-14:00 in office, 14:00-22:00 in office and 22:00-6:00 remote.
Location: Morning and evening shifts require in-person coverage at the Canadian Response Centre (CRC) in Edmonton/Leduc; overnight shifts may be completed remotely from home.
The Response Centre NP will provide telemedicine consultative advice to International SOS clinicians operating in remote settings across Canada. This includes urgent/emergency care cases, occupational medicine and primary care bridge consults, and general support for occupational health inquiries from clients.
The NP will be responsible for the delivery of professional and effective tele-medical support and clinical supervision/ consult services for all International SOS clients and clinicians in Canada via the Canada Response Centre (CRC) which is an integrated 24/7 clinical call coordination hub.
The CRC is a key part of the International SOS clinical governance and quality assurance program.The successful candidate will be able to provide clinical mentorship, consultations and case management assistance covering a breadth of primary care, urgent care and occupational medicine care settings.
Key responsibilities
Medical Supervision Responsibilities
- Supporting on-site remote clinicians including paramedics, nurses, first aiders and others in accordance with medical escalation procedures.
- Assess each designated case with respect to its medical elements and provide direction in order to facilitate medical due diligence and render the appropriate management advice.
- Assist with occupational medicine case management following industry best practices.
- Help facilitate referrals and consultations to other specialists and health system partners .
- Provide telephone / telehealth medical assessment of designated patients, assess and monitor the appropriateness of the treatment where they are located in conjunction with the Medical Director and top side support online medical control physicians.
- Organize and supervise appropriate medical supervision for designated Intl. SOS clients. This includes obtaining medical reports, organizing referrals, monitoring the patient’s conditions, recommending appropriate means of medical transportation, and monitoring the progress of such.
- Ensure an appropriate medical handover of cases at the beginning/ end of each shift.
- Partake in the further development and enhancement of Intl. SOS medical and logistic capabilities.
Medical Liaison & Reporting
- Collect relevant medical information to produce focused professional medical reports that effectively communicated medical information to all types of clients.
- Professionally communicate verbally and/or in writing to the relevant parties/clients of the progress of the patient’s condition. Discuss appropriate medical management and dispositional recommendations.
- Undertake responsibility for the medical information released from the Response centre.
- Escalation as per Intl. SOS protocol to Medical Director
- Maintain high standards for detailed and accurate documentation including the consistent updating of case files.
- Act as Medical Authenticator for internal validation of required vaccinations and tests
Medical Quality Control
- Support Medical Director in Quality Control of Medical Cases being delivered at MedSites in Canada.
- Support the team in writing procedures, protocols, implementation as deemed necessary.
- Support during the audits and controlled medication controls.
- Conduct intermittent site surveys (review of medical facilities) to add to our network of medical providers as appropriate and available.
- Assist with clinical competency assessments as part of recruitment process for certain positions.
Training
- Conduct intermittent virtual CME presentations, orientations and audits on our MedSites across Canada.
- Under the supervision of Medical Director, organize and lead training of Health Care Professionals on MedSites with new processes, and/or systems.
- Make a positive impact and significant contribution in onboarding of field Health Care Professionals going to industrial sites early in their career.
Other
- Work within and promote all Intl. SOS policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams including RNs, paramedics, PAs, and physicians
- Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Medical Director and, or Direct Manager.
- Undertake client specific training on unique software or involving programmatic requirements to fulfill the expectation of the contract and client.
- Be responsible for own Continuing Professional Education. Intl. SOS will endeavor to support appropriate Continuing Professional Education requests.
- Play a leading role in case management and team development, working closely with the Operations managers.
- Supports warehouse controlled medication management in conjunction with supply chain team
- Attend supervision, training and departmental meetings as and when required.

Required Skills and Knowledge
- Strong clinical skills and ability to lead and coach others
- Experience with electronic health records systems
- Occupational Medicine case management and recordability knowledge
- Knowledge of medical policies, regulations, and procedures
- Skilled in developing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
- Skill in developing and maintaining medical quality assurance and quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly, objectively, and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to analyse and interpret data if an effort is to evaluate clinical performance.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office applications, typing, computer and communication skills
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a master's degree.
- Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar.
- Ability to obtain licensure in British Columbia, Saskatchewan or Ontario.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Certification within past 5 years.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 2 years independent practice experience in primary care/urgent care/acute care or occupational medicine.
- Preferred family all ages licensure, emergency nurse practitioner certification (ENP) or equivalent.
Required Languages
- Fluency in English required
- Bilingual capability in French or other languages advantageous
