About the role

The Regional Financial Controller - Americas Medical Services is a key member of the Americas MS Finance team and is responsible for regional compliance within the Americas Medical Services region, management of balance sheets, legal entity structures, audits, support and project management of system implementations, as well as the full financial function including direct management and responsibility for the accounting transactional services team. 

 

This is a full-time hybrid 8:30 am until 4:30 pm role based out of our Leduc head office. Mondays/Fridays are work from home days; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday are in office.

Key responsibilities

Accounting
•    Accurate and timely financial information and reports for management and statutory requirements 
•    Responsible for entire general ledger of all entities within the Region
•    Manage the periodic Group and Statutory audits as well as Group Internal Audits
•    Participate in Quarterly Business Reviews, Forecast and Budget preparation for Balance Sheet, Cash and Capex
•    Ensure accurate and timely Balance sheet reporting through periodic and systematic detailed reviews in order to proactively manage and avoid exposures.
•    Act as technical accounting expert to support finance teams within the Region and be the point of contact for the Medical Services HQ and Group Finance team for any accounting matters.
•    Drive all legal entity cleanup projects and other ad hoc finance projects for the region
•    Where applicable support all associate and joint venture companies to ensure they adhere to correct accounting standards, statutory requirements and effective control of their balance sheets
•    Ensure correctness and completeness of information entered into the accounting system.

 


Internal controls
•    Develop and support the implementation of all internal controls and International SOS Group Policies and Procedures within the Americas MS region
•    Maintain updated internal control policies and procedures (e.g. ISOS GAPP) including approval matrices and company standards on processes and transactions capturing.

 


Regional Consolidation, Reporting and Compliance 
•    Ensure all applicable Americas MS reporting requirements are met and adhered to.
•    Ensure all statutory audits are performed timely and, in a cost, effective manner whilst minimizing audit adjustments
•    Ensure all hubs and re-charges are properly implemented and that transfer pricing documentation is in place.

 


Treasury 
•    Manage the banking relationships and facilities portfolio as applicable, as well as maintaining bank signatories and mandates 
•    Work with the working capital team to manage the cashflow for the region, ensuring optimal usage of available funds and minimization of finance costs
•    Ensure timely settlement of payables and related party balances
•    Assist the working capital team on cash extraction and other ad hoc initiatives as required
•    Responsible for FX management of the entities within the region, liaising with the MS HQ or Corp treasury teams to providing analytical support to the CFO or GM on matters of FX and hedging.  

 


Transactional Processing
•    Full responsibility for the accounting function of the transactional services team
•    Manage a team of accountants to ensure timely, complete and accurate data capture of all transactions, ensure completion of all month end tasks and processes as well as other periodic reporting requirements for the region
•    Ensure a smooth and seamless functioning of the team, handling and addressing issues and managing staff turnover to minimize any downtime risks
•    Support the implementation of new ERP and other systems and foster automations where and when applicable to maximize efficiency and avoid manual errors
•    Maintain a structure for reconciling, settling and balancing intercompany accounts.
•    Work with department heads to encourage cooperation and communication about service delivery quality and identify rooms for improvement

About you

Required Skills and Knowledge 
•    Strong technical accounting background and skills - an accounting expert;
•    In depth knowledge of accounting practices and processes as well as relevant international reporting standards (e.g. US GAAP, IFRS) 
•    Hands-on project management skills;
•    Demonstrated relationship building skills across large/diverse people business;
•    Demonstrated ability and willingness to operate at both a strategic and tactical level in a highly complex environment;
•    Exposure to different styles and personalities of business unit leaders;
•    Operated in a customer orientated environment, with experience in professional services industry desirable;
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and driver of change; able to convey messages effectively and with authority
•    Professional level technical computer skills with highly advanced Microsoft office suite knowledge – experience with SUN systems and Cognos controller an advantage.

 

Required Work Experience 
•    Minimum 10 years of working experience in technical accounting environment ;
•    Experience in management of accounting/processing teams
•    Experience in a fast pace, multi-national organization, ideally within the professional services industry;
•    Experienced in supporting operations in developing countries, diverse nationalities and cultures;
•    Exposure to dealing with senior executive and operational management teams.

 


Required Qualifications
•    Tertiary qualifications combined with work experience in a senior finance managerial capacity and exposure to all accounting disciplines;
•    CA or CPA qualifications.
•    Other relevant qualifications are a plus

 


Required Languages 
•    Excellent written and verbal English.

 

Travel / Rotation Requirements
•    Available after hours and some business travel which may include long term projects and support.
