We invite an experienced and dedicated Coordinating Nurse to enhance our Johannesburg Assistance Centre team. This pivotal role requires delivering expert medical assessments, coordinating complex case management, facilitating medical evacuations, and ensuring seamless collaboration with healthcare providers internationally. Your contribution will be critical to maintaining the highest standard of emergency medical support and client care.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Assistance and Case Coordination
- Engage actively in the nurse rotational roster to provide continuous coverage and support.
- Perform comprehensive medical assessments, utilizing clinical expertise to guide patient care decisions and ensure thorough due diligence.
- Coordinate patient referrals, closely monitor hospital admissions and discharges, and organize medical transportation logistics to optimize patient outcomes.
- Deliver prompt and precise telephone-based medical evaluations and advice to a diverse client base globally, ensuring clarity and empathy in communication.
Medical Liaison and Documentation
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between treating physicians, clients, families, and care teams, acting as a trusted intermediary.
- Prepare accurate, professional medical reports and maintain meticulous case records to support ongoing management and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate closely with insurance companies and client medical departments to streamline case handling and ensure alignment with policy provisions.
Medical Transportation Management
- Assess and coordinate medical evacuations and repatriations, applying clinical judgment and logistical coordination to safe patient transfers.
- Engage with airlines and relevant authorities to secure medical clearances and provide medical escort services when necessary, ensuring patient safety throughout transport.
Network Development and Patient Referrals
- Identify and refer patients to appropriate healthcare providers, contributing to the ongoing enhancement and expansion of our global medical network.
Case Escalation and Strategic Support
- Recognize and escalate complex or critical cases promptly according to established protocols to enable rapid intervention.
- Support business development initiatives by sharing insights and engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration to improve service delivery.
Professional Development and Safety Compliance
- Participate actively in training programs, supervision, and team development initiatives to maintain high professional standards.
- Adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies, fostering a safe and healthy working environment for all team members.
Minimum Requirements
- Educational Qualifications: Possession of a BSc Nursing degree or a Diploma in Nursing is required. Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), evidencing formal registration and licensure to practice.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years of post-graduate nursing experience is essential, including substantial exposure to high-acuity clinical settings such as Emergency, Trauma, or Intensive Care Units. Candidates with medical escort experience will be favored, as it enhances the understanding of patient transport complexities. Demonstrated leadership experience as a Unit Manager or equivalent Nurse Manager is mandatory, highlighting ability to manage clinical teams and coordinate patient care effectively.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential to facilitate effective communication across international teams and clients. Proficiency in Portuguese is a significant advantage, supporting service provision to Lusophone populations.
Skills and Competencies
- Technical Expertise: Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required, underpinning strong clinical capabilities. The role demands excellent clinical judgment and robust case management skills to navigate complex medical scenarios.
