Your Mission
As a Cross-Trained Primary Care Paramedic/Firefighter, you play a dual role in safeguarding health and safety on-site—delivering emergency medical care and supporting fire and rescue operations under the direction of Fire Officers and the on-duty Nurse Practitioner. This position combines hands-on emergency response with proactive duties such as training, mentoring, equipment maintenance, and compliance with safety protocols. You’ll assist with patient care during peak times, perform inspections, participate in drills, and maintain readiness for any situation. With a focus on professionalism, teamwork, and continuous skill development, you ensure rapid, effective response to both medical and fire emergencies while representing International SOS and the client with integrity.
How You'll Contribute
As a Cross-Trained Primary Care Paramedic/Firefighter, you'll combine lifesaving medical care with fire and rescue expertise to keep people and worksites safe:
- Perform emergency and non-emergency duties under the direction of Fire Officers and the on-duty Nurse Practitioner.
- Complete daily tasks and assignments to support fire and rescue operations.
- Foster a respectful, positive workplace by demonstrating professionalism and teamwork.
- Comply with company policies on conduct, uniform, and appearance.
- Attend daily start-of-shift meetings and other required safety meetings.
- Participate in fire and rescue training, drills, and ongoing continuing medical education.
- Prepare and assist with medical training for the fire and rescue team.
- Mentor new hires during onboarding and help them complete induction requirements.
- Inspect, maintain, and clean fire, rescue, and EMS apparatus, equipment, and facilities to ensure readiness.
- Stay current on site-specific fire and rescue guidelines, medical protocols, rescue plans, and pre-incident plans.
- Complete required fire and rescue training courses and International SOS continuing education modules.
- Perform drug and alcohol collector training and testing for workers on site.
- Assist clinic staff during high patient intake periods to support individual care needs.
- Handle administrative duties as requested by fire officers or the nurse practitioner.
- Represent International SOS professionally when interacting with clients and contractors.
- Maintain standards of practice consistent with your governing regulatory body and operate within your license scope.
- Execute tasks assigned by the officer-in-charge in accordance with emergency operations policies and guidelines.
- Identify hazards at emergency scenes and report them promptly to the incident commander.
- Complete tactical assignments safely and efficiently, ensuring adherence to the plan of action.
- Participate in post-incident debriefs and investigations to improve response processes.
The Talent We’re Looking For
Must-haves (minimum requirements):
• Work experience as an Primary Care Paramedic/Firefighter
• Fire Certifications(not limited to):
- NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2
- NFPA 1002 Level 1 and 2
- NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Or Equivalent to NFPA
- NFPA 1006 Confined Space Or Equivalent to NFPA
- NFPA 472 Hazmat
• Exceptional collaboration with other groups and the ability to work under pressure
• Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
• A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preference for:
• Experience in an industrial setting
• A high level of knowledge and the ability to interpret relevant medical and operational guidelines, protocols, policies and procedures
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
