The Infection Control Nurse will utilize their expertise of evidenced based nursing practice to ensure that departmental goals are compatible with, and enhance the hospital and organization's mission, values, and strategic plan.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Demonstrates visibility and accessibility to staff by making regular rounds, staff communication, and meetings.
•    Collaborates with nursing and medical staff in the development and measurement of performance of standards of patient care.
•    Creates an environment that facilitates innovative patient care delivery.
•    Provides clinical leadership and expertise; serves as technical support and resource 
•    Actively attends and participates in department head and other essential committees of the medical department.
•    Assess and communicates departmental need for equipment and supplies.
•    Participates and promotes continuous quality improvement and management programs implementing and communicating corrective action plans and interventions. 
•    Conducting data analysis to help detect unusual or unexpected outcomes and to determine the effectiveness of infection prevention and control practices
•    Documenting observations related to the causes of infection and/or infection trends 
•    Implementing measures to prevent the transmission of infectious agents and to reduce risks for device and procedure-related infections.
•    Policies, procedures, and practices which promote consistent adherence to evidence-based infection control practices;
•    Collaborate with PHN and OHD to to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.   
•    Program oversight including planning, organizing, implementing, operating, monitoring, and maintaining all of the elements of the program and ensuring that the facility’s interdisciplinary team is involved in infection prevention and control; 
•    Surveillance, including process and outcome surveillance, monitoring, data analysis, documentation and communicable diseases reporting (as required by State and Federal law and regulation); 
•    Education, including training in infection prevention and control practices, to ensure compliance with facility requirements as well as State and Federal regulation
•    Antibiotic review including reviewing data to monitor the appropriate use of antibiotics in the resident population. 
•    Cross-train to work as an RN team member within the clinics, emergency room, and inpatient units.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience
  • Experience in a clinic setting (urgent care, emergency room, etc.)

Long Description

  • Current and unrestricted license from any US State, District of Columbia or US Territory to provide healthcare within scope of practice.
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Nursing is required from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • American Heart Association - Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification is preferred.
  • CIC Certification

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. 
  • US DOD CNACI clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
