Overall Purpose Of The Job
The Paramedic provides treatment, such as first aid or life support care, to sick or injured patients. The Paramedic will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect clinical care to patients. The Paramedic will competently function as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and community-centered care. The Paramedic serves as an advocate for the patient and their family and intercedes on their behalf by acting as a liaison for patients and their families with respect to their rights and beliefs. The Paramedic will utilize their expertise of evidenced based medical practice to manage unexpected and emergent situations, to mitigate and treat a variety of injuries and illnesses in a prompt and professional manner.
We are currently staffing for PRN Paramedics to provide casual coverage for one of our industrial clients in Port Arthur, TX. All candidates must be able to reliably commute to work site for scheduled shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate ambulance equipment and respond to radio transmissions.
- Coordinate with the team responding to an emergency.
- Provide emergency care in basic and advanced life support.
- Respond to accidents and multiple traumas applying the principles of Advanced Trauma Life Support.
- Assist with minor/routine medical cases when not responding to emergency medical cases as directed by the Physician and Clinical Team Leader.
- Perform regular training (e.g., first aid) and participate in emergency drills at Jobsite.
- Prepares patients for and safely transports them to the emergency department of a hospital or other healthcare facility.
- Documents and reports observations and any treatment provided, to physicians, nurses, or other healthcare staff.
- Evaluate the patient’s condition on the scene and perform a preliminary diagnosis; Assessment and documentation will include the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history and prescribed medications.
- Establish observable and documentable patient goals using care plans within protocols.
- Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within licensed scope of work.
- Attend to injuries or sudden illnesses by applying a variety of pre-hospital simple and advanced treatments (first aid, CPR, administering injections and oxygen, etc.) or surgical procedures.
- Proactively and independently administer basic care, including but not limited to inserting catheters with blood specimen collection, urine collection and EKG’s, visual acuity, basic wound care, changing bandages or administering intravenous medications.
- Assist patients with basic care and activities of daily living, as needed.
- Use tech equipment and tools to stabilize patients or provide immediate treatment.
- Monitor the patient’s condition en route to the treating facility; Report all changes in patient’s conditions to the medical provider.
- Collaborate with interested parties (police, firefighting unit, doctors, etc.)
- Write and submit accurate reports on incidents.
- Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards.
- Keep abreast with new treatments and medical procedures through continuous training.
- Provides support and education to help patients make responsible health decisions.
- Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies.
- Restocking clinical and provider areas once supplies are received.
- Cross-train to work within in the clinics, emergency room, and inpatient units.
Required Work Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of paramedic experience
- Experience in a clinic setting (urgent care, emergency room, etc.)
- Occupational Medicine experience required.
Required Qualifications
- Paramedic Texas State Certification
- ACLS
- BLS
- Certified as a CPR Instructor
Required Languages
• Excellent written and oral English
