Overall, Purpose

This position is in support of the United Nations Peacekeeping operations in Hati. International SOS provides routine and emergency medical support to the UN Peacekeeping personnel and support contractors in Hati on this mission.  

The Physician will utilize expertise to mitigate and treat injuries and illnesses to ensure proper injury care and disease diagnosis, treatment and recovery, request necessary tests and follow-up visits and refer patients to specialists as necessary.  Will coordinate medical referrals, coordinate admission, monitor and arrange final disposition.  In addition, will require stabilization of patient and coordination of evacuation of patient to higher level of care as required. We are looking for candidates with a commitment to a proactive approach to workplace safety while taking a diplomatic and professional approach to customer interactions.
 

Key responsibilities

Provide urgent and emergency care within the scope and scale of normative emergency medicine practice in the United States (within the capabilities of the ROB Role 2 program).  
•    Will coordinate medical referrals, coordinate transfers, monitor and arrange final disposition.
•    In addition, will require stabilization of patient, coordinate with the surgeon for surgical patients, coordinate with the CMO for admittance of patients, and coordination of evacuation of patient to outside of location as needed.  
•    Participation in meetings and medical committees as deemed necessary by the CMO.  
•    Assist and participate in MASCAL drills and actual events.  
•    Provide advice and commentary as the improved performance of medical activities within the Hati Role 2 program.  
•    Telephonic on call requirements as part of a rotation, if required, supporting APP activities in the ER.  Maintain and protects the confidentiality of patient information. 
•    Is accountable for maintaining and improving own physician knowledge and skill competence. 
•    Provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients in the clinic.  
•    Supports the International SOS philosophy, objectives and goals and Organization mission and vision. 
•    Respects and supports patient rights. 
•    Promotes and practices positive customer and peer relations and cost containment for the Emergency Department. 
•    Fosters constructive relationships as a team member within the Emergency department and with the members of other departments. 
•    Maintains professional conduct. 
•    Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.  Strong background in computer skills desired. 
•    Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures. 


 

Job Profile

Experience:
•    Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Physician; Preferably in a remote/austere site.  
•    Board Certified in Emergency Medicine.  
•    We are looking for candidates with a commitment to a proactive approach to workplace safety while taking a diplomatic and professional approach to patient interactions.  Must possess visual acuity required to distinguish fine gradations of color and/or texture.  
•    Proficient oral and written communication abilities in English. 
•    Flexible and willing to work in a culturally diverse environment.

Education:
•    Current and unrestricted license from any US State, District of Columbia or US Territory to provide healthcare within scope of practice.  
•    Current Basic Life Support (BLS)   
•    Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.  
•    Current Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification  
•    Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification
•    DEA License  

Physical Demands: 
•    Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
•    Will involve assisting in the lifting and moving of patients for litters, wheelchairs, and beds.  
•    Performing CPR 
•    May require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 35 lbs. 
•    Exposure to tropical heat and weather conditions during duration of deployment.  


Other Special Qualifications:
•    US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.  
•    Must be able to relocate to Hati for duration of contract. 
•    This is an unaccompanied assignment.
•    A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay in Hati.
