Overall Purpose of The Job

 

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide the services outlined below.   

The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. The incumbent physician will provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. The incumbent must adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion; will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards; will mentor, train and provide supervision for residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required; and performs other directly related duties as required.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. Oversees and responds to monthly audit of medications per PWS requirements.   
  • Will provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. Inspects medication stock and medication use outside of the Pharmacy per departmental directives. 
  • Adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion.  
  • Other duties within scope as assigned  

Job profile

Experience Required:  

  • Graduate of an accredited General Surgery Residency in the US.   

 

Education Required: 

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.  This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.  
  • DEA License  
  • For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.  
  • Current BLS certification.  Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. 
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs. 

 

Other Special Qualifications

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.   
  • Must relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.  
  • Pass a Child abuse and neglect check.   
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance
