Overall Purpose of The Job

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide the services outlined below.   

The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing, the incumbent performs a variety of general and specialized technical and clerical support functions in Pharmacy Service and enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the professional staff. Processes refill requests, collates and prepares prescriptions for distribution The Pharmacy Tech will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standard. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews, separates & returns unit dose medications as appropriate to the proper bins at the medication picking stations. 
  • Retrieves, pours, counts, weighs, measures, and sometimes mixes medication.  
  • Performs administrative functions such as answering phones and stocking shelves.  
  • Prepares prescription labels, selects the type of container and affixes the prescription and auxiliary labels to the container.  
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.  
  • Other duties within scope as assigned.  

Job profile

Experience Required:  

  • Completion of a accredited pharmacy technician training program. 

 

Education Required: 

  •  A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience  
  • For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Dental Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.  
  • Current BLS certification.  Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. 
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs. 

 

Other Special Qualifications

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.   
  • Must relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.  
  • Pass a Child abuse and neglect check.   
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance
