Role Summary

 

The Ophthalmologist is a medical doctor or osteopathic doctor that works as part of the Ophthalmology department. The Ophthalmologist will provide specialized ophthalmic expertise within the multi-disciplinary team with the primary role of, evaluating patients for ocular conditions that may be attributable to military service. The ophthalmologist must be able to properly evaluate conditions and clearly provide written evaluation notes via required forms.

Duties and responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities:
•    Provide routine care such as vision testing and evaluation of visual conditions.
•    Provide ophthalmic consultation to other medical doctors.
•    Refer patients for more specialized evaluation if required for proper evaluation.
•    Diagnose ocular diseases and injuries.
•    Liaise with other medical staff to ensure continuity of care
•    Educate patients about eye condition and treatment plan.
•    Ensures that all medical records are correct and maintained
•    Provision of clinical reporting into Project Medical Director
•    Support clinical mentoring for staff development
•    Ensure best practice in line with clinical guidelines and SOPs
•    Support the clinical excellence framework under direction from the Project Medical Director
•    Provide liaison with external agencies where required to maintain continuity of care and professional referral/patient handover

Governance

Comply with health & safety standards consistent with the requirement to follow such procedures and regulations as may be laid down by the company, its client or the host state including:

•    Maintaining and improving clinical quality through audit and quality improvement activity.
•    Safe and appropriate use of medication.  
•    Clinical governance. Clinicians should understand their role in the organisation’s clinical governance program.

Job Profile

 

Qualifications & Experience:
•    Medical degree in Ophthalmology and licenced to practice Ophthalmology in the US, home country or country of practice. Licensed optometrist
•    Successful completion of internship and residency in ophthalmology. 
•    Experience with adult patients.

Key Skills:
•    Expert working knowledge of the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye.
•    Ability to provide follow-up care for patients as needed
•    Excellent IT skills including use of electronic medical records systems 
•    Excellent communication skills
