The Project

The project is one of the largest outsourced medical facilities in support of the Department of Defense located on Kwajalein and Roi-Namur. Intl SOS is the medical subcontractor under Vectrus Systems Corporation. The scenic chains of Islands are a strategic defense location equidistant from Hawaii, Australia and the Philippines. On Kwajalein, Intl SOS operates a 10 bed, Critical Access Hospital plus a dental clinic, a veterinary clinic, and is responsible for food service safety. Kwajalein is a 6.5 square mile Island where bikes are the primary mode of transportation. While there is no cell service, data apps work well when using Wi-Fi. Kwajalein is a close-knit community of 1500 military personnel, army civilians, contractors and family members.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands lab test ordering system, patient accessioning, reference lab billing procedure and laboratory filing system.
  • Performs phlebotomy on all patients, adult and child and follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Communicates effectively with both patients and co-workers.
  •  Collects NIDA drug screens and correctly follows chain of custody requirements.
  •  Understands send-out procedure, including preparing the manifest for the shipping department and packaging the specimens for delivery to shipping and receiving department.
  • Maintains a safe work environment to promote efficient and effective laboratory operation.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of department practices that reflect Joint Commission International (JCI) and Quality Improvement Standards while performing all work at a level to meet these standards.
  • Demonstrates and encourages ethical behavior.
  •  Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies including but not limited to safety, infection control and mass casualty.
  • Identifies and promptly addresses unsafe practices and other safety issues within the healthcare system.
  • Participates in all safety, infection control and other mandatory training.
  • Maintains patients, employee and hospital confidentiality at all times, discussing patient, employee or hospital only with appropriate parties who have a bona fide need to know; and
  • communication only the minimum amount of information necessary with respect to protected health information (PHI) as identified by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA).

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs only those waived or moderate complexity tests that are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s training, experience, and technical abilities.
  • Follows the Laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  •  Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
  •  Follows the Laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
  •  Is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately contact the MLS.
  • Analyzes, records and reports test results, and conducts quality control testing as needed.
  •  Must possess visual acuity to distinguish fine gradations of color and/or texture and manual dexterity sufficient to work with delicate instrumentation.
  • Is familiar with routine test normal and critical result ranges and follows procedure for calling critical lab results.
  • Ability to inoculate microbiology specimens onto appropriate culture media.
  •  Is accountable for maintaining and improving own laboratory knowledge and skill competence.
  •  Provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients in the hospital and clinic departments on a 24-hour basis.
  •  Supports the hospital’s philosophy, objectives and goals and Organization mission and vision
  • Promotes and practices positive customer and peer relations and cost containment for the Laboratory Department and patient.
  •  Fosters constructive relationships as a team member within the Laboratory and with the members of other departments.
  •  Maintains professional conduct.
  •  Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
  • Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures. Strong background in computer skills desired.
  •  Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
  •  Follows the EPA regulations and completing required annual Proficiency Testing for water specimens.
  • Administration duties as needed

Education Required

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  •  Experience and interest in providing care to a multi-cultural patient population.
  •  High school graduate or equivalent and has documentation of training appropriate for the testing performed prior to analyzing patient specimens

Physical Requirements

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  •  Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  •  May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

• US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.

• US DOD NACI clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.

• Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.

• A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
