The Project

The project site is the U.S. Army Garrison Hospital, located on the atolls of Kwajalein and Roi-Namur in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, a scenic chain of Islands equidistant from Hawaii, Australia, and the Philippines. It is one of the largest outsourced medical facilities in support of the Department of Defense. Since 2018 International SOS Government Medical Services, has been subcontracted to manage the 10-bed Critical Access Kwajalein Hospital, dental clinic, veterinary clinic, and a medical clinic on Roi-Namur. Kwajalein is a 6.5 square mile atoll where bikes are the primary mode of transportation. The more than 1,500 residents include military personnel, Army Civilians, contractors, and their family members. Kwajalein is home to one of the world’s largest coral atolls and lagoons. The year-round warm and sunny weather supports a variety of activities, such as scuba diving, sport fishing, sailing, and wind surfing. The military base also boasts a movie theater, bowling alley, gym, golf course, ceramics studio, and small shopping areas.

Description

The Food Safety Inspector is responsible for food safety inspections and sanitation of identified base food preparation establishments; including but not limited to incoming shipments, storage areas, kitchens, and dining facilities to ensure they meet proper standards from production to presentation.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

· Inspecting and accepting or rejecting incoming shipments for food and ingredients in accordance with safety and sanitation regulations.

· Monitoring food distributers, processors and manufacturers for safety and sanitation regulation compliance and reporting any violations immediately.

· Ensuring all food is suitable for human consumption based on health and safety standards.

· Continuously inspects and audits food facilities and equipment

· Continuously inspects areas that prepare or serve food, including CYS, Schools, and MWR facilities

· Supports MWR and Garrison by inspecting temporary food service activities

· Inspection of ice machines and water samples throughout the AOR

· Active participation in day to day office activities, including a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve procedural processes, obtain approvals, and remain abreast of new developments and policy requirements.

· Active participation in Mass Casualty exercises and events.

 

Key Responsibilities

Handles all requests and inquiries for patient health information whether received via mail, fax, phone or in-person.

· Verifies the patient identity and confirms that the authorization is valid.

· Ensures the requesting party has a legal right to request a patient’s medical information.

· Provides excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful; ensures understanding of customer request and follows-through as promised; and being proactive in identifying client concerns, or problems. Helps resolve customer service matters in a polite manner.

· Accesses computerized patient record and/or other computer systems for patient information needed for faxing and for other requestors of the medical record.

· Performs at established quantitative and qualitative work standards to meet departmental goals and objectives.

· Promotes quality improvement, staff and patient safety, and cultural diversity through department operations and by personal performance.

· Provides service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient’s age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.

· Compiles and maintains credentialling files for medical personnel.

· Assists with other administrative tasks and required.

Experience Required

· Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the area of food inspection, processing, storage, shipping and receiving

· Current ServSafe Certification preferred.

· Intermediate computer skills including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, and e-mail required.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong organizational and multitasking ability.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education Required

· Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or agricultural science preferred.

· US military experience in food inspection is preferred.

· Must be in possession of a food safety inspection certificate from an accredited program.

Physical Requirements

· Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, warehouses, coolers, and outside.

· Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.

· May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs.

· Must be able to read, write & speak English to effectively communicate

· This position is unaccompanied.

· US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.

· US DOD NACI or the ability to obtain one is required.

· Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Garrison - Kwajalein Atoll.

· A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
