Overall Purpose of The Job

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide the services outlined below.   

The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, The dental assistant is an integral member of the dental treatment team and performs a wide variety of interventions which contribute to the overall oral health of Veterans. The work requires a professional knowledge of the field of dental assistant. The incumbent dental assistant will serve at the full performance level with the ability to perform a full range of duties and perform assigned selected procedures with some independence. Dental Assistants assist the dentist in many aspects of direct patient care and perform other clinical and clerical functions independently of direct supervision; will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standard. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Assisting in routine dental procedures using concepts of four-handed dentistry. 
  • Maintaining dental operatory in a clean and orderly fashion; exposing both standard and specialty dental imaging in traditional and/or digital formats 
  • Prepares the operatory with all needed equipment, materials and supplies for planned dental procedure(s) prior to seating the patient and cleans operatory after the patient is dismissed for timely turnover. 
  • Dental assistants provide direct patient care under the general supervision of the Dentist and perform other clinical and clerical functions independent of direct supervision. 
  • Other duties within scope as assigned

Job profile

Experience Required:  

  • National Board (DANB) Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Exam 

 

Education Required

  • Successful completion of a 2-year dental assistant program or completion of a 2-year dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Accreditation that included at least 12 semester hours of courses.  
  • For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Dental Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.  
  • Current BLS certification.  Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. 
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs. 

 

Other Special Qualifications: 

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.   
  • Must relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.  
  • Pass a Child abuse and neglect check.   
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance
