Description

The Behavorial Health Specialist is responsible for managing individuals with medical and behavioural health problems within the primary care setting. In addition, this position may also require the development and implementation of wellness programs to support patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide social services, behavioural health, and addiction medicine services.
  • Work directly with primary health care providers in identifying and treating mental disorders and psychosocial difficulties including the detection of at-risk patients and further harm prevention.
  • Provide consultative services to patients referred by primary care providers and provide clinical status.
  • Determines patient care plans along with the primary care team.
  • Maintains accurate patient records including the proper tracking of treatment plans.
  • Educates the primary care team on mood disorders (such as depression and anxiety), and providing tools and techniques to manage these disorders including, anger management and marital and family issues.
  • Teaches patients, families and staff about prevention methods and treatment options.
  • Provides recommendations for coping strategies that assist members of the workforce in reducing the stress of OCONUS life.
  • Monitors the site’s behavioural health program, identifying problems related to patient services and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Utilizes various computer software to log patient information and access emails and calendars.
  • Active participation in day-to-day office activities, including a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve procedural processes, obtain approvals, and remain abreast of new developments and policy requirements. Active participation in Mass Casualty exercises and events.

Job Profile:

Experience Required:

  • · Minimum of five (3) years of experience in short term, solution focused counselling with individuals, children, families, and couples.
  • · Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with psychotherapy groups is preferred.
  • · Experience with Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is preferred.

 

Education Required:

  • · Current and unrestricted license (LPC, LMFT, LMHC, LISW, LCSW, or similar) or authorizing document from any US State, District of Columbia or US Territory to provide healthcare within scope of practice
  • · Must hold a BA degree in psychology, Counselling, or Social Work. Must hold a valid state license as a LPC, LMFT, LMHC, LISW, LCSW, or similar behavioural health license.
  • · Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

 

Physical Requirements:

  • · Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • · Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • · May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs.

 

Other Special Qualifications:

  • · On call requirements as part of a rotation if required.
  • · Must be able to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • · This position is unaccompanied.
  • · US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • · Ability to obtain a DOS mandated clearance if one is required.
  • · Must be able to relocate to Kaiserslautern, Germany on a three-month deployment.
  • · A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay in Germany.
