The Role
The Nauru- Australia Health Partnership Program – Raña Tsimorum (Look after your life) is a 10-year bilateral investment from the Australian Government to support the Nauru Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to deliver the health components of Nauru’s National Sustainable Development Strategy 2019-2030, seeking to strengthen the health system to respond effectively to health threats, better meet the population’s healthcare needs and significantly improve health outcomes. Raña Tsimorum has 3 focus areas – Health System Strengthening, Health Service Delivery and Inclusive Health. It is a vital part of Australia’s development program in Nauru and funded and overseen by the Australian High Commission to Nauru.
The Family Health Practitioner (FHP) will support Nauru’s Department of Health and Medical Services (DHMS) and Department of Public Health (DPH) in developing a new primary health care model and preparing three PHC Centres. Key duties include:
- Mentoring and training local Family Health and Senior Nurse Practitioners to strengthen clinical skills and healthcare capacity.
- Partnering with local, regional, and international partners to enhance program delivery and resource access.
- Leading the redesign and implementation of a family-centred primary health care model.
- Assisting DHMS and DPH in identifying and managing risks during implementation.
- Assisting the formation and onboarding of Family Health Teams, including trainee FHPs.
- Serving as the main contact for Overseas Medical Referrals and Visiting Medical Teams.

Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a GP or Family Physician or Registered Nurse with experience in general practice or public health nursing
- Registered medical or nursing practitioner in country of residence
- Medical degree (MBBS, MD or equivalent) / Nursing degree or equivalent; additional training in Family Medicine, General Practice, Midwifery, or Paediatrics preferred
- Experience mentoring junior clinicians or leading clinical teams
- Proven ability to work in resource-limited settings
- Familiarity with Australian aid policies and their application in health projects
